A total of 30 new FIFA referees from across Africa including 9 women
will take part in the high level refereeing course which will run from 3 to 9
August 2014, according to a list released by the confederation of African
Football (CAF).
Two head instructors at the course are: Ali Mohamed Ahmed (Somalia) who was recently promoted to CAF level and Alexander Cotey (Ghana). This is the first time in history that a Somali instructor has taken such high profile responsibility to teach at international level course, according to Somali Football Federation Secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab.
"It is an immense day for Somalia as our instructor Mr. Ali Mohamed Ahmed
has been appointed to teach at such course—this is clearly indicating that
Somali Football in now on the way to a higher development, because we had never
had such chance in the history of Somali Football” Secretary General Abdi Qani
Said Arab said in a press statement.
Mr. Arab noted that in the years to come Somalia will be expecting to
have other instructors promoted to CAF and FIFA levels, as Somali Football Federation
has been weighting on the build up of education to increase the quality and
quantity of its local instructors, referees and coaches.
"The promotion of Mr. Ali is the result of what we have been doing for
the past several years in terms of the enhancement of football education in the
country” Said SFF secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab who thanked FIFA and
CAF for their constant efforts to help the growth of football in the
war-devastated country.
