Somalia's U-17 football squad has been encamped at the National Technical Centre, as part of the country's preparations for the upcoming Africa U-17 Cup of Nations to be played in Algeria from 29th of April this year.

For the past three months, the team has been undergoing on and off training sessions, but this residential encamping means that the technical staff and the youngsters will be living and training at the Technical Centre until their departure from the country.

Somali Football federation technical director, Awil Ismail Mohamed, said that encamping the team at the residential training center is intended to let the players get the opportunity to engage in more training sessions and have plenty of time with their coaches.

The second vice president of Somali Football Federation, Abdirashid Abdulle, who addressed at the camping ceremony urged Somali business community to play their role in encouraging the national flag carriers. "It would have been better to encamp the team earlier, but it became possible for us today to enter them at the camp after so many efforts we have made since we were elected on the 22ndof last month” SFF second vice president, Abdirashid Abdulle, said.

On his side, SFF senior vice president, Ahmed Farah Takal, said that the start of the training camp is part of the country’s Africa U-17 Cup of Nations campaign. The senior vice president added that the team will make some foreign trips to train abroad and have friendly matches as part of the preparation campaign. He added that the neighboring Ethiopia will be the starting point of the squad’s foreign travels.

In October last year, Somalia won the U-17 tourney of the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations [CECAFA] held in Ethiopia. For Somalia, this was the first regional Africa Cup to win in its football history. With winning the trophy Somalia also qualified for its first ever African Cup of Nations.
