Somali community soccer tourney in Jeddah ends

The Somali community football tournament that has been under way in the Saudi city of Jeddah for the past several months has come to an end with Xiddigaha Ruweys winning the trophy on Friday.


The match was very competitive and the 90-minute period that takes to play a football match ended in 0-0 draw, but according to the international laws of the game Xiddigaha Ruweys defeated their Iftin stars opponents by 5-4 in penalties.

The final match has attracted the attention of a large number of fans and many football personalities including former national team goalkeeper Jeylani Khalif Mohamed who was honoured to present the trophy to the winning Xiddigaha Ruweys team.


Chairman of the Somali sports community in Jeddah Mohamed Aweys Ahmed and members of his committee Abdulkader Seylac and Abii Abdulkader were also watching the final match Friday.

“Today it is a very cheerful day for us, because we are successfully concluding a very huge task that has been under way for several months—we are very grateful to Allah for making our job successful and we thank to all who helped us in the implementation of such successful tournament” Chairman Mohamed Aweys Ahmed told the closing ceremony Friday.
