SFF to launch football for peace campaign

With Implementing the Somali football federation’s plans on expanding the FOOTBALL FOR PEACE AND PUBLIC INTEGRATION program through out all Somali regions, authorities of Somali football federation have been on a work tour to the puntland state of Somalia in August where they held meetings on football development with the state leaders.


SFF’s delegation under the chairmanship of president said Mahmoud Nur included his deputy Ali Said Guled, General secretary Abdi Qani Said Arab and Somali football federation technical advisor Abdi farah Ali and they met with the Puntland regional state president Abdurahman Mahmoud Faroole, his deputy Abdi samad Ali Shire and sports minister Mohamed Abdi Nur.

 

During the three-hours long meeting which took place at the Taar city Hotel in Galkayo both sides discussed and agreed on the following issues:

 

1-Deeloping Somali football and in particular in the Puntland state which is peaceful in comparison with the war-torn south-central Somalia.

 

2-Visits by members of Somali football federation technical and development committee to the football facilities in Punt land cities to study their needs.

 

3-to organize the December 09 regional FOOTBALL FOR PEACE AND PUBLIC INTEGRATION tourney which will be participated by 15 regions and groups from Somali expatriate football communities in Western countries.

 

Somali football federation general secretary Abdi Qani aid Arab who first addressed at the meeting gave more details about the 2007-2008 regional football tournament which was hosted by the same State of Puntland, praising Puntland’s role in that tournament.

 

He said that his federation will stop at nothing to develop football activities in the regional state, the move which is expected to help score peace and public integration and eliminate hostilities among Somalis.

 

The secretary general stressed that Somali football federation is owned by the whole nation and a joint work is necessary saying that SFF is very grateful to world football governing body FIFA which he said had given every possible assistance to Somalia.

 

“With the country being under one of the most difficulty situations in the world today we have succeeded to do much than can be done in such chaotic environment and that was done with the assistance and encouragement of FIFA” Somali football federation general secretary Adbi Qani Said Arab told Puntland authorities during their meeting on August 26 2009.

 

The General Secretary told the regional authorities that Somali football federation plans to hold coaching, administrative and women football development seminars in Puntland before the end of this year. The announcement was warmly welcomed by the Puntland authorities.

 

President of Somali football federation said Mahmoud Nur who after the secretary spoke at the meeting sad that authorities of Somali football are fully satisfied with Puntland’s offer to help develop Somali football activities and he welcomed the region’s acceptance to host the 09 regional FOOTBALL FOR PEACE AND PUBLIC INTEGRATION tourney.

 

On behalf of SFF’s name president Said Mahmoud Nur announced the opening of a regional football office in Puntland to continue the development work of football activities in the five regions under the Puntland state of Somalia.

 

“With the help of FIFA we will hold the 09 regional FOOTBALL FOR PEACE AND PUBLIC INTEGRATION tourney in Puntland by December this year” Somali football federation president told the Puntland authorities.

 

President of the Somali state of Puntland Abdurahman Mahmoud Faroole had warmly lauded for the federation’s initiatives thanking SFF leaders for their constructive idea to develop football, saying he is very jubilant at his region’s 2nd host of the regional tournament.

 

President Faroole officially accepted to host the inter-regional tournament adding that Puntland is open to world’s football leaders as long as it is peaceful.

 

“Somali football federation makes us feel how it is committed to expanding its activities through all Somalia and that is very lucrative step forward” President of the Somali state of Puntland Abdurahman Mahmoud Faroole told Somali football federation authorities.

 

He demanded Somali football federation SFF and that of the world FIFA to repair football facilities in the region and particularly in the capital city Garowe and in the commercial capital Bosasso.

 

Finally Puntland’s youth and sports minister Mohamed Abdi Nur spelt out the structure of his ministry and how it goes through its daily works and he accentuated that his ministry was cheered by the football development initiatives presented by Somali football authorities.

 

In comparative with the rest of Somalia Puntland is peaceful environment that may currently host the tournament.
