The Somalia’s football top level delegation was highly welcomed at the airport by the region’s soccer authorities, football players and fans, as the main point of the president’s tour to Puntland is to hold talks with the regional leader on holding the final round of Somalia’s 18th regional football tournament in Puntland before this year’s end.
President of SFF Said Mahmoud Nur accompanied by his deputy Ali Said Guled Rooble and General Secretary Abdi Qani Said Arab will hold talks with Puntland president Abdirahman Faroole for discussions on hosting the 18th Somali regional football tournament.
The competition is due to be held in Puntland’s capital city Garowe in October this year according to Somali football federation president said Mahmoud Nur.
“Somali football administers the entire regions of Somalia and it is same to us whether we hold the games in Mogadishu or in Puntland, but at the moment we prefer Puntland because you know how Mogadishu’s security situation is” the SFF president told reporters prior to his departure from Mogadishu airport on Wednesday morning.
The Somali inter regional football games are now on halt because of the insecurity in the restive Capital Mogadishu where nearly 80% of its residents fled from their homes.
SFF president and his delegation will stay in Puntland for four days and will then return to
Although Somali capital is experiencing nearly daily armed conflicts, then the nation’s football activities are on going well, as last week the city fare-welled the Under 17 football squad which left for Sudan for the CECAFA U-17 football competition which kicks off on Wednesday August 19.
