Somali Football federation Education Officer Ali Mohamed Ahmed has been appointed by the Confederation of African football to be CAF referee assessor. With this appointment Mr Ahmed became the first Somali National to be appointed as CAF referee Assessor, according to a press statement from Somali Football federation media Department.

"According to the CAF appointment letter the former international football referee Ali Mohamed Ahmed will be assessing the Burkino Faso referees who will be officiating the CAF Confederation CUP Group Stage match on Sunday next week” Somali Football Federation Media officer Shafi’i Mohyaddin Abokar said in a press statement here in Mogadishu on Wednesday.

 

The match will be between St. Georges (Ethiopia) Vs E.S.S. (Tunisia), two of the strongest clubs in Africa—the match will take place on Sunday 22^ndof September. Mr Ali Mohamed Ahmed was one of the panel shortlisted from referee experts who took part in the 2012 FIFA Futuro III courses as those who got the highest marks at the examinations were taken as referees assessors.

 

"Meanwhile, Mr. Ali Said and two other Somali referee instructors Abdi Abdulle Ahmed (Baasale) and Aweys Ahmed Jimale will be participating in the FIFA Futuro II course slated in Addis Ababa for 5-10 October this year” Somali Football Federation chief media officer Shafi’i Mohyaddin Abokar said in a press statement on Wednesday. All there are former international referees and current referee instructors.

 

"The SFF education officer and former international Referee Ali Mohamed Ahmed has been actively working in the field of Somali football Development for the past several years since he retired from his former career as an international referee”” the press statement added.

 

"This appointment comes as Somali Football Federation secretary General Abdi Qabi Said Arab is currently in Tahiti for being member of the FIFA committee administering the FIFA beach soccer world cup due to kick off in Tahiti today” the SFF chief media officer Shafi’i Mohyaddin Abokar noted in his pres statement adding that it was a great honour for the whole Somali people that officials from Somali Football federation are playing a key role in the football field outside the war-devastated country.

 

Already Somalia has had CAF commissioners Amir Abdi Hassan and Hassan Mohamed Mahmoud.
