A veteran Somali football administrator and former international referee, Hassan Mohamed Mahmoud, has died at a hospital in Mogadishu, Somal football federation announced tonight.
The veteran football leader, was admitted to hospital late last month and was pronounced dead at about 10:30 on Thursday night. The body of the late Somali football administrator, will be laid to rest in Mogadishu after Friday prayers, according to Somali Football Federation.
The president of Somali football federation, Abdiqani Said Arab, his deputies, Ali Abdi Mohamed and Abdullahi Sheik Nur Ahmed, members of the executive committee, secretariat members and football stakeholders are sending heart-felt condolences to Hassan’s children, wife and relatives.
"It is with greater sadness to hear of the death of our beloved brother. With his death Somalia has missed a vetran football administrator, an instructor and a great friend” president of Somali Football Federation, Abdiqani Said Arab, said in a statement.
The flag of Somali Football Federation will fly half-mast on SFF headquarters and all football facilities in the country for a period of 3 days as the nation’s football family mourns for the los of the veteran football administrator.
The late veteran was member of CAF’s organizing committee for Africa Nations Championship. He also served as Somali football federation general secretary 2014-2018, while previously serving as deputy general secretary for more than 16 years.
